Callbox Phone Unmarked. Small tag on top "Patent Applied for." "Z40" cast into baseplate. Goes in a large cast metal enclosure. Probably used by the beat policeman to report in or in a fire call box.. Once the E1 handset was taken off-hook, activating the lever wound a spring that caused the station's code to be sent down the line. In this case, the cam follower automatically "dials" 3-6. The brass mechanism was covered with a glass disk (removed for the photo) to keep it clean. There are also two pushbuttons for signaling. |
